Description:

The International Rescue Committee helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future.

Guide a refugee or SIV (Special Immigration Visa) family by visiting their home, helping them with their job search, practicing English, and providing insight into American culture.  Mentors work closely with case managers and the volunteer coordinator.  Most mentorships take place during evenings and weekends.

  • Requirements:
  • - Must be at least 18 years old

     

  • - Participate in mentor and general volunteer orientation

     

  • - Be interviewed by IRC staff

  • - Complete a background check

  • Hours:  Minimum commitment:  2 - 3 hrs/week for 6 months
