Description:
H.O.P.E. Ignited! Stanislaus started a Kindness Rocks Garden at Glick Middle School in December 2019. Our inspiration came from a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Out of the mountain of despair, a stone of hope." The purpose of this project is to inspire, encourage, and connect community members by creating Kindness Rocks. We couldn’t have predicted that the world, as we knew it, would change dramatically in a few short months. Over the past year, through partnerships with local businesses, schools, and community organization, over 3,000 rocks have been created. In the spring of 2020, 600 Kindness Rocks kits were distributed with school lunches so that children could work on them in the safety of their homes. Community members will be able to add rocks, take rocks, and share rocks in our garden and in their own neighborhoods. We know that fear, hate, and apathy can spread. We believe that love, empathy and hope can spread too! We are encouraging community members, students, staff, and families to design kindness rocks with an inspirational symbol or quote. Participants will be able to give and take rocks during times they need a dose of encouragement or inspiration. Our H.O.P.E. Ignited! members will be on hand to create rocks and build connections alongside community volunteers. Supplies will be provided.
